CYSA is happy to announce a great summer training opportunity at Ningret park for Children born between 2009 – 2012. We are offering a five (5) week technical training program with Davis Fox.
Davis is the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at the University of Rhode Island, he will be hosting Technical Training at Ninigret Park this summer! These sessions focus on comfort on the ball and mastery of fundamental soccer skills. Players will enjoy time with the ball at their feet and lots of fun games.
The cost for the 5 weeks is $75 and will be held on Wednesday evenings, 6/27/2018, 7/11/2018, 7/18/2018, 7/25/2018 & 8/1/2018. Birth years 2011/2012 will be 5:00pm – 6:00pm and birth years 2009/2010 will be from 6:00pm – 7:15pm.

We at Chariho Youth Soccer wanted to give you some information regarding tryouts and the upcoming fall 2018 Soccer. Tryouts are scheduled for Monday June 18th(boys) and Wednesday June 20th(girls). It is the same time for both days. U8 is 4:45-5:30, U9/10 is 5:30-6:30, U11/12 is 6:30-7:30. The players interested in playing U13/14, please contact Danielle Buckingham for the fall competitive season.
There has been a lot of information being passed around about Westerly youth soccer program versus our program. Chariho will be charging $125 for fall travel soccer which includes the option to play recreational soccer at no additional charge; however, not a requirement. With that being said, there are some benefits to playing recreational soccer also. First, it is a lot less pressure and fun. Second, the kids who play at other levels don’t often get to use the moves they learn in practice during a game at those higher levels or with much success. Using those newly learned skills in a recreational game is the perfect place, while also teaching others around them that haven’t quite gotten to the upper levels. Finally, at the recreational level, they will be playing with the kids in their school district, and their friends. With all that being said, the option is yours at no additional cost if your child makes a competitive travel team.
Next,we will need to purchase new uniforms. We will keep our uniform around $75 or less and strive to keep costs as low as possible. So, for a total year, fall and spring with the ability to include Fall recreational soccer, the total cost would be $250 plus $75 or less for travel uniform. There are many additional programs offered through the area for winter training and programs which we will share if you have an interest in that. They range in price from around $100-$175 for a 6-10 week program and Chariho can get the same pricing as Westerly, so doesn’t matter what town you are playing for.
Coaching at Chariho has typically been provided by many of the experienced parents we have in our district. For the past few years, some of those coaches were the technical committee for C.W. United. We at Chariho want you as parents to decide what you think is best for your child. If you have had a coach from Westerly and you and your child is happy with that group, then we encourage you to stay with that group if you like. The same is true if you have a Chariho coach. We will not put any preference on where your child is from, but merely placing kids with similar abilities together. We encourage all of you to attend our tryouts and ask any questions you like to get the best information on where you should place your child.

All existing and future coaches, please be aware that US Youth Soccer has done a tremendous job improving their website and coaching resources that are available. Please take some time to follow the link below and review the information. Having resources like this is very beneficial and a great help for new coaches.
The 2018 season is already in full swing and Fall registration is open and filling up. We have no lack of children willing to play, what we need is help.
For those that may not be able to make a commitment for a board position we need folks for organizing events, general field setup and tear down, and working the concession stand.
Please keep in mind that we are a 100% volunteer organization, we are YOU… parents, family and friends of more than 400 children in the program. We rely on each other in the CHARIHO Community to keep this program running and current.
We have meetings on the first Thursday at 7:30 at the Baptist Church 1059 Main St, Hope Valley, RI 02832, stop by and see what we are all about.
We still have 5 board member opportunities which need to be filled. Below is a brief description of the open board positions.
Assistant to the Director of Fund Raising – Support the fund raising activities to support team sponsors, recognition and promotion of sponsors, and identifying grants for program/ field improvements.
Director of Fields – Designs and coordinates field lay out and lining activities to support our Recreational and Competitive Activities. Coordinates with the town to obtain permission to use the fields and arranges proper field maintenance such as aeration and fertilizer.
Director of Public Relations – Provide communications ensuring that pertinent information is distributed to CYSA members, outside agencies, and/or the general public by submitting press releases, mailing newsletters, and /or providing information to the Website Manager.
Assistant to the Director of Registration – Assists with player ratings, team formation, team sponsor assignment, uniform assignment and ordering and database entry and manipulation.
Members-at-Large – Assist CYSA by attending meetings, helping in any area that may require assistance, and serving on committees.

To be a referee you MUST:
- Be 12 yrs old or in the Seventh grade in September 2018
- Attend referee clinics on May 7th & 9th 6 pm – 8pm (In 5th /6th grade cafeteria CMS)
- Pass a written test given by the league (you can take it as many times as necessary)
